Martinez was a member of the team that broke the Distance Medley Relay world record 1/28/17.
Cercacor today announced world-record-holder runner Brenda Martinez is the latest champion to become an Athlete Ambassador with the company. Cercacor makes EmberTM – the world’s first non-invasive hemoglobin tracker for endurance athletes. Ember enables endurance athletes and their trainers to non-invasively measure hemoglobin, oxygen content, oxygen saturation, perfusion index, pleth variability index, pulse rate, and respiration rate in approximately 30 seconds.
Martinez is a middle-distance, elite track & field championship medalist and Olympian. With her three other Olympian teammates, she broke the indoor distance medley relay world record (10:40.31) in Boston on January 28, 2017. Among her many other achievements include being the 2016 USA Indoors 1500m Champion (4:08.57). Martinez will share her experiences using Ember through her and Cercacor’s websites, social media, a series of videos and limited appearances.
When Martinez won the bronze medal in the 800 meters at the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in 2013 (PR 1:57.91), she became the first American woman to ever place in the top three in this event at the world championships. (Martinez may be upgraded to silver, instead, pending the final appeal and adjudication of a suspended athlete.)
Before earning her degree in 2010 from the University of California Riverside, Martinez was a three-time, NCAA All-American. She currently lives in Big Bear, CA with her husband Carlos Handler and has used Ember since December 2016.
"Over the course of my career, I've learned that being in tune with my body is absolutely essential for improving performance,” explained Martinez. “I use Ember three to four times a day to gain insights into several of my critical biomarkers that I wouldn’t know without doing blood tests. The device is simple, painless and has become an integral part of my training sessions.”
“It’s an honor to have a runner and athlete of Brenda’s caliber help us share Ember with the world,” stated Cercacor’s VP of Marketing Mel Chiba. “We really admire her methodical training regimen and relentless pursuit of becoming the best possible runner. We also applaud how much time she gives to inspire and encourage young female athletes and runners.”
“Brenda’s a terrific champion and role model,” explained Dotsie Bausch, Cercacor’s marketing strategist & ambassador and a 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist. “She really embodies what Cercacor looks for in an Athlete Ambassador.”
